On September 19–20, 2023, the AMFA National Executive Council (NEC), Local Presidents, and an Airline Representative (ALR) from each of the seven AMFA-represented carriers convened in San Diego for the Association’s second Joint Advisory Council (JAC) meeting of 2023. With the growth AMFA has had this year with certifications at Sun Country Airlines, Spirit Airlines, L3Harris MAS, and WestJet Airlines, we now seat four additional ALRs at the JAC table.

The JAC discussed items of mutual interest related to safety and compliance, legal arbitration cases, Shop Representative training, and our business plan. Additionally, we reviewed numerous current events and acknowledged the challenges the Association navigated as well as recognized our achievements from this year. This included reaching industry-leading collective bargaining agreements containing increased wages, work rules, and job protections at Southwest Airlines; the annual wage review resulting in wage increases at Alaska Airlines; and the upcoming TA ratification vote at Alaska Airlines. We also discussed negotiations for new members at WestJet Airlines, Sun Country Airlines, Spirit Airlines, and L3 Harris MAS, as well as upcoming negotiations at Horizon Air.

This meeting of the JAC was productive, highlighting the Association’s goals and objectives. We aim to expand our footprint in the industry across North America, be effective in negotiations with leading wages, and be the voice for AMTs and AMEs to represent our craft/trade to the fullest in the United States and Canada.
