Aircraft Mechanics Fraternal Association (AMFA) National Director Bret Oestreich released the following statement:

On behalf of the over 4,000 aircraft mechanics representing Alaska Airlines, Horizon Air, and Southwest Airlines, AMFA supports the “Restoring Safety in the Skies Act of 2020” introduced by Senators Edward J. Markey (D-MA) and Richard Blumenthal (D-CT).

The creation of a task force to deal with the unprecedented effects of the COVID-19 pandemic on aviation and to contemplate the new normal is essential. By bringing together aviation experts, including the aircraft mechanic labor voice, the industry will have a more complete view of what the future of air travel is and should be.

The safety of the flying public as well as frontline workers, like the aircraft mechanic, must be considered in light of the current crisis.

AMFA encourages others to offer their support and looks forward to helping the task force once established.
