Update #14 May 4, 2024

The AMFA-WestJet Negotiating Committee (the “Committee”) is providing this update to the Membership at WestJet, an Alberta Partnership (“WestJet”). This is the only official authorized source of negotiating communications.

We assume by now you have seen the notice and pronouncements by WestJet. In the midst of around-the-clock bargaining, the Company decided to deliver a 72-hour lockout notice to your Negotiating Committee, which stated that “unless we reach a deal” a work stoppage will occur as early as Tuesday, May 7, 2024.

Your Committee has been working tirelessly in Chicago bargaining in good faith with the Company since Thursday and worked late into the night Friday in an attempt to reach a deal for your consideration. The Parties continue to make progress in these negotiations. While we were dismayed the Company decided to interrupt the negotiating progress to deliver its lockout notice, we are not deterred from our ultimate goal of reaching an agreement.

Your Committee wants to reassure you that even in the face of the lockout notice we remain in Chicago steadfastly committed to reaching a negotiated resolution and presenting you with a collective agreement that you, the members, can consider and vote upon.

We will provide updates to you as the bargaining unfolds here in Chicago.

Your Committee thanks you for the overwhelming outpouring of support and messages of solidarity we have received — especially those that have poured in following the Company’s lockout notice.

Fraternally,

AMFA-WestJet Negotiating Committee
